Conceptual Staff Portrait by Miami Photographer Tom Clark

No matter how old you are, you can still recall those days that you spent with your favorite toy. I remember my Simpsons collection. Dozens among dozens of yellow action figures all starring at me. Professor Frink was my favorite. His rounded glasses and white lab jacket. “Hoyvin!”

This shot was done for a software development company called Magic Leap. Upon visiting the website, it will show the staff members name and title, but instead of the mundane and typical headshot, a photo of their favorite childhood toy appears. Gary Natsyme decided on the classic yo-yo. It’s a nice way of conveying the playful side of a business.

yoyo by Miami Photographer Tom Clark

Magic Leap thrives on the “think differently” and children at heart approach. “We are here to make magic real for you” it’s refreshing and intriguing.

It is easy to dwell on the stresses of today’s fast world, but it never hurts to think back on the simpler times.

Portrait of Sarah Kouri by Miami Photographer Tom Clark

What Tom and I like about this shoot is the minimalism: wall, mat, Sarah, Floor. We have a strong minimalist philosophy; no ornamental additions to the photo nor superfluous adjectives in this description.

Tom finds not only solace in this motion but also a bit of a comedic irony. Much of the commercial photography business requires Tom to embrace consumerism while his actual preference is to ignore the urge to consume.

Working with Sarah gave Tom a break from business and to correlate his minimalistic ideals with yoga. The only requirement to perform the archaic practice is your presence.

Sarah in pyramid pose. Her pose is strong, determination in her face. Not even a strong gust could knock her over.

Fashion Photography by Miami Photographer Tom Clark

Once or twice a year, Tom does a collaborative shoot with fashion designer and now Asheville, NC resident, Rachel Weisberg and Miami native actor/model/singer, Carolina Pozo.

Rachel combines the elements of fashion with concerns in production sustainability, emphasizing on local scale practices. The collaboration makes perfect sense: a photographer with minimalist aesthetic and a designer with a minimal footprint. My eyes are drawn to the brass horseshoe. Carolina’s vertebras and back muscles elevate the horseshoe while it gingerly dangles from a thin, gold chain. The ocean blue dress then blends in with a blank wall, Carolina’s umber hair and vivacious tan juxtaposing.

Tom never considered these shoots to be work and I can see why. Tom, Rachel, and Carolina created a beautiful and useful image while in an atmosphere of the ideal work environment.

Miami Photographer Tom Clark: Ramen

Tom Clark is a commercial photographer available for food, product, architectural and interior photography in Miami and throughout the U.S.

ramen food photography

This one pays homage to photographers who are just starting their careers, or a typical Tuesday night at my place during the busy season. Just because you’re eating ramen doesn’t mean you have to suffer. Some salt pork, eggs and hot sauce can go a long way and will complete those ramen meals.

Also, I’ve been having some fun trying to make the perfect egg. I guess anyone can get lucky every now and again, but repeating your results with boiled eggs is a surprising challenge (especially working with basic appliances). I like a yolk that’s on the runny side, but definitely need the whites to be firm. I’m not with the runny whites. Not enough time in the heat and you’ve got a mess on your hands… too much time in the heat and your yolks are dried.

Miami Photographer Tom Clark Now Offers Food Photography

Tom Clark is a commercial photographer based in Miami offering professional photography services in advertising, celebrity portrait, architectural, interior, product, food and lifestyle assignments throughout the U.S.

Mango Salsa by Miami Photographer Tom Clark

Everyone seems to be a food photographer these days, and it makes sense. Well prepared food can be very attractive and we need to keep our social media feeds updated with something. With so many cell phone photographers out there flooding the market with imagery I find it’s more important than ever for professionals to develop a style and an understanding of lighting and composition that goes beyond the basics. It’s easier than ever to get your work out there, but it’s more difficult to stand out from the crowd.

Food is in my top three of reasons to get out of bed, so it makes sense for me to focus on food photography. As I grow in my profession I find a narrowing field of desirable subject matter. I used to offer it all, but realize now the best way to provide honest and authentic results in photography is to have actual interest in the subject.

With thoughts of creating a food specific portfolio and fresh mangoes dropping from the tree in the backyard, two worlds collided. Stay tuned as more images from the soon to be released food photography gallery are completed.

Carolina Pozo Portrait Shoot by Miami Photographer Tom Clark

Tom Clark is a professional portrait photographer based in Miami, FL

Carolina Pozo by Miami Photographer Tom Clark

This week’s photo is from a great shoot in the Wynwood studio with Carolina Pozo (often referred to as Caro). The portrait utilizes a delicate balance of natural and strobe lighting. Our goal was to create realistic and interesting imagery in a simplistic setting and we managed to pull off quite a few looks, each as successful as the last.

Working with Carolina was easy since it wasn’t our first project together… check out the Rachel Weisberg fashion short we collaborated on last year.

You can catch Caro in the new Hulu series South Beach, where her and an all-star (mostly local) cast gives a peek into the Miami music industry.

Rachel Weisberg Spring-Summer 2016 by Miami Photographer Tom Clark

Fashion Photographer Asheville, NC

rachel weisberg 2016

We had a great shoot in Asheville, NC this week for Rachel Weisberg’s Spring-Summer 2016 collection. In this portrait we found a brief moment to step out as Rachel excitedly prepared for Axis in NY, which begins tomorrow. The otherwise peaceful studio was filled with that good kind of chaos as we shot the likes of Aubrey Huntley, Amy Sreb, Casey Puhr, Taylor Dallis, Sarah Merrell, Patrice Wilson, and Nicole Martinez.

The fashion line utilizes organic materials and processes, which we aimed to reflect in the style of photography. The clean, natural looks below were created by Leigha Beck (makeup) and Amy Day Dougherty (hair).

Furniture Silhouette by Miami Photographer Tom Clark

red monaco bar

Photographers have a hard enough time shooting lacquer surfaces… this piece from Kravet threw a few more challenges in with a center mirrored niche surrounded by black glass. Nothing was out of view with these reflective surfaces and so lighting this piece was fun (can you sense the sarcasm?)

Sometimes it pays to be a control freak. In this case, no matter what the angle, the camera was visible in the subject and I had to make it disappear. As you can see it was a success, but I’m afraid I can’t mention how. Photographers never reveal their tricks, accept maybe after a drink or two.

Below are a few more angles from this shoot.

camping in the Pisgah Forest by Miami Photographer Tom Clark

Now that we’re also offering commercial photography services in Asheville NC I’ve found a few more opportunities to camp out in the Carolina wilderness. This shot was taken a few miles off the blue ridge parkway after hiking a bit toward Looking Glass Rock. Now, it wouldn’t be camping in WNC without a sudden thunderstorm interrupting your dinner. Luckily we managed to get a fire going and capture this photograph just before the inevitable.

New Studio Location – Miami Fashion Photographer Tom Clark

The photography season in Miami is winding down and we’re finally sorting through all the projects from fall/winter and that means it’s time again for the photo of the week. In a recent shoot with Condition Culture (a Miami based beauty products brand) there were too many keepers to choose just one. So, here’s a gif!

This will be the last shoot to take place in the Pool House Studio. After a long run in Coconut Grove, Tom Clark Photo is moving to a new location in Wynwood. Here’s to a new era!

Serena Williams by Miami Photographer Tom Clark

Serena Williams by Miami Photographer Tom Clark

As Serena Williams sets her sights on an 8th championship at the Miami Open today, it seems suiting to share this image from a recent shoot with 1in11.org.

There’s no doubt Williams will make life hard for opponent Suarez Navarro… let’s just hope the Miami fans can step up their support after a weak display during the semi-finals, in which Halep supporters dominated what should be Williams’ home turf.

Fall 2014 Look Book for Rachel Weisberg by Miami Photographer Tom Clark

This video accompanies the look book created by Miami photographer Tom Clark for Rachel Weisberg.

The motion picture reveals Carolina Pozo killing the camera in several looks hand crafted by Rachel. It was captured simultaneously with the still images providing a behind the scenes look at the photo shoot itself from the camera’s perspective. Below are some images from the look book.

David Samson on the Field at Marlins Park by Miami Photographer Tom Clark

David Samson having some fun with the photographer

David Samson: President of the Marlins, TV Survivor contestant, Ironman, philanthropist, and yes… prankster! No need explaining why this gem is the new photo of the week.

This was my first experience on the field of any major league stadium as a photographer, so I got a kick out of the not so subtle gesture. Apparently this sort of thing happens to photographers all the time. Perhaps I’ll start a collection!

With so much attention surrounding the new stadium in Miami, I’m glad to have finally seen it for myself.

Stock Photography by Miami Photographer Tom Clark

bald eagle mountain

Bald eagle flying over an Akaskan mountain

This week’s photo is part of a stock photography collection of images.

As a core contributor to the boutique stock agency Glasshouse Images (based out of NYC), Tom Clark has compiled an eclectic group of imagery from expressive lifestyle and food photography, to expansive and almost hyper-real environments and nature images.

In this photograph an eagle soars through a dramatic Alaskan landscape with a balance of vivid detail and negative space, making the image an ideal candidate for stock photography with plenty of room for copy and logos.

Trash the dress by Miami photographer Tom Clark

Trash the dress shoot by Miami photographer Tom Clark

Although I’m not a wedding photographer, I do offer bridal portraits to soon to be and new brides.

In this trash the dress shoot we explored Viginia Key to see what type of locations it could provide. Jimbo’s lends some of the grittiest backdrops to photographers in Miami, but I was just as pleased with the scenes we found along the Virginia Key beach.

Leftover bonfires, primitive wooden shelters, shallow expanses of sea, small weathered piers, and rocky points like the one highlighted in this photo make the park a valuable resource for photographers.

Vivian King struck a beautifully strong pose in perfect time for the small gust of wind to pull the hair away from her face in this photo of the week.

Amanda Serrano’s Magazine Rings by Miami Photographer Tom Clark

Amanda Serrano Magazine Rings

Amanda Serrano's Magazine Rings by Miami Photographer Tom Clark

Amanda Serrano is a visual artist based in Miami whose most recent body of work consists of three-dimensional sculptures made from magazines.

The pieces are constructed of many rings and can create an interesting challenge for a photographer. Each has a shape and a transparency that is unique. The two of these characteristics work together in revealing the true form of a piece.

Some stand upright while others are fixed to or floating before a wall, and the variety  of shapes created by Amanda ranges from structured cubes, to spheres, to organic masses, and combinations of each.

The work can be seen at The Art Center’s 800 Lincoln Rd building on Miami Beach.

Georgina Evans by Miami Photographer Tom Clark

Georgina in Miami
A meadow of reeds taking up a vacant city lot along River Drive in Miami recently caught my attention as I passed by. The contrast of natural growth and urban infrastructure seemed to provide an intriguing twist on the all too common fashion in the meadow concept.

Georgina (who flew into Miami from the South of France to celebrate her birthday) worked this location with her amazing red features, bringing another element of contrast to the scene, and making me the photographer inspired about the shoot.

This image was styled by Emily Noe.

Caroline Seymour by Miami Photographer Tom Clark

Caroline Seymour by Miami Photographer Tom Clark

Photographers in Miami are surrounded with location options ideal for photographing lifestyle and fitness concepts. In the process of creating a variety of looks for Caroline Seymour to be used in her brand new modeling portfolio, we covered a range of styles, looks, and concepts.

Although we covered scenes of Caroline running on the beach, doing yoga by the water, and exercising in the park, this image (taken from the stairs of the old Coconut Grove Playhouse), which provides an urban perspective, stood out to me as the most powerful.

Caroline Seymour is based out of The Carolinas and is available for commercial, lifestyle, fitness, and fashion modeling assignments.

Erick Morillo by Miami Photographer Tom Clark

Erick Morillo at Arkadia in Fontainebleau Miami

As a local Miami photographer it’s always a pleasure to take part in creating artwork for the Winter Music Conference (WMC, one of South Florida’s largest music festivals), and having the chance to work with world-renowned DJ Erick Morillo makes this an even better experience.

This shoot took place inside Arkadia in the Fontainebleau Miami, providing both a natural and surreal setting for the top DJ in town.

A restful moment sets the stage for the inevitable explosion of energy, which will surely come from the speakers as Erick rocks the house.

University of Miami runner and pre med student Jacqueline Rose will be entering the Wilhelmina fitness model contest held in Miami Beach on November 7. She wanted a photographer to capture images that displayed physical fitness, beauty, and gracefulness.

A variety of looks were covered in the shoot, including swim wear, athletic gear, and formal wear. This is one of the many images that stood out as having all of the desired elements.

I am looking forward to finding out how Jacqueline does in the competition.
