Jimbo’s in Miami’s Virginia Key

Miami Photographer Shoots at the Jimbo's Bus

Every photographer in Miami has probably shot at or at least heard about shooting at Jimbo’s on Virginia Key. After being hired to photograph a story for local model and talent Alejandro Mazzieri I decided it was time that I have a shoot there.

The location was suiting for the model’s style and I’ve heard talk of changes to come as far as Jimbo’s is concerned. Had I missed the opportunity to shoot there it would have been a shame.

This busted up bus is amazing and the whole location is sort of a playground for photographers. Perhaps the best part of the location is the shrimp and beer though.

Point Blank City’s Young Souf

Miami photographer shoots Point Blank City's Young Souf at the Playhouse
Miami photographer shoots Point Blank City's Young Souf at the Playhouse

The perfect location is one that will test the limits of photographers. For instance, this abandoned playhouse in the Coconut Grove section of Miami was a great setting for photographing Point Blank City’s Young Souf. However, to get the perfect shot we knew it was necessary to make it onto the roof. Attention is the enemy of a geurilla photographer but we took our chances and climbed atop the building for the whole town to see.

With luck and light on our side we were able to get some great shots and vacate the premises on good terms. Now we have proper images to serve as the album artwork for Young Souf’s upcoming mixtape Gangsta Muzik.

Blue Moon Over Miami Skyline

Blue Moon Over Miami Skyline by Photographer Tom Clark
Blue Moon Over Miami Skyline by Photographer Tom Clark

As a photographer I feel that this New Year’s Eve was not about preparing for a ball drop in Times Square, but about embracing the full moon’s rise for the second time in December.

This blue moon could not have had better timing in Miami as it rose in the East just two minutes after the sun set in the West. By the time it was coming up over the city’s skyline there was just enough light left from the day for me to capture this scene with my camera.

2009 turned out to be a good year for finding interesting jobs and meeting many great people along the way. I am looking forward to an even better 2010.

Photographer shoots urban camping in Miami

Urban Camping in Miami
Urban Camping in Miami

Photographers in Miami have a tendency to shoot in locations that are well known by most local photographers as great locations. This causes a panic in me that drives me to seek out new and distinguishable settings.

This week I teamed up with Emily Noe (model, hair & makeup artist, wardrobe stylist, etc.) on a self produced fashion editorial assignment.

The theme was urban camping, the wardrobe was thrifty, and the production style was based on guerilla mobility.

This photo gave us a chance to put on a show for the commuters waiting for the bridge. Stay tuned to see the rest of the shoot in the soon to come editorial gallery

Find more of Tom Clark’s work at his photographer portfolios.

Being a photographer makes camping more fun and camping makes being alive more fun.

My father was in Miami for Thanksgiving and over the weekend we had an opportunity to camp on the beach in Long Key State Park in the Florida Keys.

This was a perfect time to take a portrait of my dad Frank Clark and my dog Scott Ballentine.

The contrast between  cool moon light and the warm light from fire and flashlights always motivates me to capture the scene around the camp site.

Francisco Stanzione by Miami Photographer Tom Clark

Francisco Stanzione has teamed up with Anthony Embry Public Relations and is preparing to introduce himself to the film and photo industries.

Stanzione is currently living in the Miami area and was in need of a photographer to create images that will be included in his Press Release Kit. It is always a pleasure to work with creative, young talent and I feel that Francisco Stanzione has the drive and backing to create waves in the sea of entertainers known as Los Angeles.

Check back next week for more images from this shoot in Tom Clark’s portrait photography gallery.

Blood Type, Miami Hip Hop Artists

Miami Hip Hop duo Blood Type
Miami Hip Hop duo Blood Type

Blood Type is a hip hop duo out of Homestead and is bringing realistic, raw rap skills to the Miami scene with flows reminiscent of an east coast style combined with southern roots.

The independent artists are looking to shine some light on their work and needed a photographer to create images for an EPK that will be released in the near future. I am always excited to help local artists present their image to the public and am glad to be involved in the Miami hip hop scene which is definitely on the come up.

If you enjoy imaginative and poetic lyrics you will want to keep an eye and ear out for Blood Type.

Fashion Photographer in Miami

Miami Fashion Photography
Miami Fashion Photography

This week we were lucky to have Julia and Hemendra in Miami for a photo shoot. The couple has been traveling from Berlin and has made stops in Frankfurt, New York, and Miami.

They wanted a photographer to create a book showcasing Julia’s beauty and diversity. With fashion styles from around the world and an elite crew (Autumn Suna – Hair and Makeup & Jim Weber – Lighting Tech) this assignment reminds the world that Miami is still the place to come for unique, affordable, high end fashion and portrait work.

Check back next week to view more images from this job in the fashion gallery.

This week we had a special guest here in Miami. Scotland’s hot young model Joe Kydd flew in to take part in an American fashion story. The idea was to merge classic, timeless and new styles to reveal the eclectic nature  of a real person with a sense of fashion.

The styles and concepts span from the 50’s to the present and Joe was perfect for the job. His look is versatile which allowed us to experiment and have variety.

Check back next week to view more images from this story in the fashion gallery.

Photographer Tom Clark shoots hip hop artist Dru-Ski on the streets of Miami

As a photographer in Miami I am always looking forward to the Fall. Many jobs come  from out of town and last week we had the opportunity to combine young talent from New York, Atlanta, and Miami in one deadly shoot for up and coming hip hop artist Dru-Ski.

Dru-Ski is most known by his music following and those who saw him on BET’s College Hill Atlanta. He believes that there is no limit to what young people in America can acheive and intends to spread this attitude  through his music and his presence on the web.

I am glad to have been a part of this production and look forward to following the progress of Dru-Ski’s career.

Bridal Portrait

Bridal Portrait in Vizcaya by Miami Photographer Tom Clark
Bridal Portrait in Vizcaya by Miami Photographer Tom Clark

Being a photographer at Vizcaya in Miami reminded me of being a child in the penny-candy store. There are overwhelming amounts of beauty.

I am no wedding photographer but newly discovered that shooting bridal portraits is a great way to create beautiful and elegant photographs which also serve a very practical and meaningful purpose. And I am a portrait photographer.

It was a Saturday in Miami and the gardens were crowded with photographers, somehow no one was in anyone’s way.

I had fun shooting at Vizcaya and seeing the other shooters inspired me to put even more into my work.

Sunrise over Ventnor Beach

Landscape photograph of the sunrise over Ventnor Beach
Landscape photograph of the sunrise over Ventnor Beach

This week’s photograph represents what I love the most about being a photographer.

Waking up before the sun rises, grabbing a cup of hot coffee and smiling about all the available street parking at the beach is how I begin a shoot like this. Then I choose my shot and set the camera on a tripod. All that is left now is to wait for the sun and enjoy everything that surrounds you.

I found this pier while jogging with my dad along Ventnor Beach in New Jersey. It’s just a short distance from Atlantic City but somehow maintains its status as a fairly peaceful shore town.

New Jersey’s beaches provide a fair match for Miami. It seems to me that New Jersey skies are more colorful in the morning and afternoon than the skies in Miami.

Photograph of South Florida Firemen in Action

firemen

Firemen make for great photographic subjects and I am glad to have had the chance of shooting during a training exercise at the Coral Springs Fire Academy. Photographs seam more natural when people are faced with a situation that pushes their limits and this photograph captures the firefighters exiting a container that was over 700 degrees Fahrenheit. The men were inside for over ten minutes.

Birthday Snapshot Photography with Canon G10

Snapshot taken at Gillian's birthday dinner at the Biltmore in Miami

A photographer can sometimes be in the way and spoil the moment. This was part of an attempt to be a less invasive portrait photographer during Gillian’s birthday dinner at the Biltmore in Miami. I wanted to achieve beautiful photographs in real time without worrying about technical settings and manual controls. The Canon G10 when tweaked right can provide the look I wanted in automatic shooting mode. This is a great camera to have when photography is not your main focus but you would like to get great images.
