Product photography can prove to be a challenge for even experienced Photographers.

Composition along with lighting plays an important roll in bringing still subjects to life. In this commercial image for Oliva Cigars our goal was to introduce their Melanio Line with the feeling of the line’s tag line “A New Standard In Excellence”.

Because of their matt surface and glossy labels, cigars can prove to be a difficult subject for photographers. It’s very important to create a lighting scenario that shows the texture and color of the cigar without creating too much shine on the label.

It was a great pleasure to be involved in the “No soy angel, soy Angelissima” cosmetic ad campaign that has just hit the stands.

This shoot was produced by the Stonehenge Circle Production Company and took place at One Source Studios Miami. The angel wings (the other star of this shoot) were created by the very talented Yasmin Deliz.

Stay tuned as more images from this campaign will soon be added to the celebrity gallery.

Miami Street Fashion by Photographer Tom Clark

fashion's night out Miami

Fashion Photographer South Florida

Photographers mobbed the design district this week during Fashion’s Night Out Miami where street fashion opportunities were on the loose.

I’ve been told Miami is all about the shoes, but I believe there’s at least a little more to it than that. For every bedazzled shirt, mini-skirt, high heel combo there’s a creative spirit somewhere nearby… if you know where to look.

On this particular occasion American and European fashion and styles were covered from all angles. To view some more looks visit the street fashion photography gallery.

Looking Glass Rock by Miami Photographer Tom Clark

looking glass rock by Miami photographer Tom Clark

Photographer South Florida

Summer in Miami can prove to be a trying time for photographers (particularly in the fashion industry.) Once the season passes, the professional photography industry in Miami mostly heads North with the snow birds.

This year I decided to cope with the slow season by taking a little time off… away from South Florida and the heat.

This landscape image was captured early one morning in the North Carolina Pisgah Forest. The view from John Rock overlooks Looking Gass Rock to the North.

The time in nature was much appreciated and now I’m back in Miami eagerly awaiting the busy season and ready to take your call.

Emilio Palacio by South Florida Photographer Tom Clark

Emilio Palacio by South Florida Photographer Tom Clark
Emilio Palacio in a South Florida Coffee Shop

Photographers South Florida

Emilio Palacio, an influencial journalist from Ecuador was forced to flee his country and take refuge in Miami after questioning President Correa’s political methods and integrity. His reason for fleeing was to avoid a jail sentence and fine of $40,000,000 (for the act of criticism.)

Although he’s been separated from family, here in South Florida Emilio is free to speak his mind and provide content to his readers back home.

So from the corner of a South Miami coffee shop an Ecuadorian struggle for free press is carried out beneath the chatter of this and that.

Condition Culture by Miami Photographer Tom Clark

Condition Culture by Miami Photographer Tom Clark

Photographers in South Florida often have the pleasure of working under blue skies with their toes in the sand. This was the case last week while on a shoot for Condition Culture, a Miami based hair accessories company.

Color Smash Hair Shadow works in a similar way to makeup, enabling you to temporarily color your hair. It goes on easy, is sealed with hairspray, and washes out. Perfect for making a bold statement  without a commitment.

The results from this collaboration (after various tests and innovations) amounted in an amazing level of precise detail.

Thanks to this collaborative effort archival discs from Tom Clark Photo will physically maintain a consistent level of quality with the images they contain.

Miami Fashion Shoot by photographer Tom Clark

Drea Solis by Miami photographer Tom Clark

Topeekeegee Yugnee Park, located in Hollywood, FL provides an amazing portrait, fashion, and/or lifestyle location for Miami photographers. It’s a short drive to the North and contains rolling hills, which are very rare in South Florida, and oak trees rather than the typical palms that are so commonly seen in photographs taken in Miami.

The park can become very crowded (especially on the weekends), but early in the morning and with the right perspective  photographers can create the illusion of isolation in a natural setting.

Drea Solis, a local jazz dancer commissioned this shoot as part of her image portfolio.

Stock Photography by Miami Photographer Tom Clark

bald eagle mountain
Bald eagle flying over an Akaskan mountain

This week’s photo is part of a stock photography collection of images.

As a core contributor to the boutique stock agency Glasshouse Images (based out of NYC), Tom Clark has compiled an eclectic group of imagery from expressive lifestyle and food photography, to expansive and almost hyper-real environments and nature images.

In this photograph an eagle soars through a dramatic Alaskan landscape with a balance of vivid detail and negative space, making the image an ideal candidate for stock photography with plenty of room for copy and logos.

Check out more of the stock images Tom Clark has available in his stock photography collection.

Trash the dress by Miami photographer Tom Clark

trash the dress by Miami photographer Tom Clark
Trash the dress shoot by Miami photographer Tom Clark

Although I’m not a wedding photographer, I do offer bridal portraits to soon to be and new brides.

In this trash the dress shoot we explored Viginia Key to see what type of locations it could provide. Jimbo’s lends some of the grittiest backdrops to photographers in Miami, but I was just as pleased with the scenes we found along the Virginia Key beach.

Leftover bonfires, primitive wooden shelters, shallow expanses of sea, small weathered piers, and rocky points like the one highlighted in this photo make the park a valuable resource for photographers.

Vivian King struck a beautifully strong pose in perfect time for the small gust of wind to pull the hair away from her face in this photo of the week.

In order to provide James with a proper portfolio of images, we covered various locations showing his abilities to fit into casual, fun, sexy, fashionable, and serious roles. This particular look was photographed in the Pool House Studio in Coconut Grove. It’s a small space, but provides the photographer with everything they need to get the job done.

Tom Clark’s Pool House Studio is the perfect space for shooting model portfolios and actor or professional business headshots.

Amanda Serrano’s Magazine Rings by Miami Photographer Tom Clark

Amanda Serrano Magazine Rings
Amanda Serrano's Magazine Rings by Miami Photographer Tom Clark

Amanda Serrano is a visual artist based in Miami whose most recent body of work consists of three-dimensional sculptures made from magazines.

The pieces are constructed of many rings and can create an interesting challenge for a photographer. Each has a shape and a transparency that is unique. The two of these characteristics work together in revealing the true form of a piece.

Some stand upright while others are fixed to or floating before a wall, and the variety  of shapes created by Amanda ranges from structured cubes, to spheres, to organic masses, and combinations of each.

The work can be seen at The Art Center’s 800 Lincoln Rd building on Miami Beach.

Georgina Evans by Miami Photographer Tom Clark

Georgina in Miami
A meadow of reeds taking up a vacant city lot along River Drive in Miami recently caught my attention as I passed by. The contrast of natural growth and urban infrastructure seemed to provide an intriguing twist on the all too common fashion in the meadow concept.

Georgina (who flew into Miami from the South of France to celebrate her birthday) worked this location with her amazing red features, bringing another element of contrast to the scene, and making me the photographer inspired about the shoot.

This image was styled by Emily Noe.

As the abundance of Spring catalog fashion waits for the heat and rain to pass, the Summer in Miami provides a perfect opportunity for photographers to test and update their portfolio.

Rather than crowding the beaches, parks, and palm-lined streets, photographers (those of us who remain in the area) find excuses to shoot in air conditioned studios and location homes.

In this photograph, local modern dancer and wardrobe stylist Emily Noe shows off her ability to style the wardrobe and model it simultaneously.

This image was created in the Coconut Grove Pool House Studio.

Pamela Anderson by Miami Photographer Tom Clark

Pamela Anderson by Miami photographer Tom Clark

The Venetian Causeway  provides many amazing locations for photographers that maximize the drama of a Miami sunset. This image of Pamela Anderson was taken on the Angels of Reality TV set, a popular French reality sitcom in its second season.

The American celebrity appeared as a surprise guest on the show, welcoming the cast to Miami.

The photographer has a limited time to capture images when working around the film crew, but when the setting is stunning and the, the lighting assistants are on point and the talent is a super star, one take is all you need.

Broward Fire Academy
Broward County fire fighters

Fire fighters make for an amazing subject and provide excellent shooting opportunities to photographers.

In this shoot for Honeywell First Responder Products (formerly known as Sperian Fire) I had the chance to study fire-fighting techniques up close and personal.

In this kitchen fire simulation the South Florida fire fighters display their abilities to work together and take control of a situation.

The protective suits provided by Honeywell enable these men and women to withstand temperatures of up to fifteen hundred degrees.

Epic Miami view by local Photographer Tom Clark

miami skyline
Miami skyline by local photographer Tom Clark

The downtown Miami skyline makes for an interesting subject, though most of the views are common knowledge to most of the local Miami photographers.

When asked to provide a fresh take on the subject, I found myself exploring the magic city thoroughly, stumbling upon various new shooting locations, and gaining a more intimate understanding of the downtown area.

This view was chosen in the end due to its epic story-telling qualities. Because the camera’s positioned within the city rather than at a distance, you’re able to see details such as the waterways, parks, palm trees, US 1, street lamps, and yachts, along with a great deal of depth in the buildings.

Photographers in Miami are surrounded with location options ideal for photographing lifestyle and fitness concepts. In the process of creating a variety of looks for Caroline Seymour to be used in her brand new modeling portfolio, we covered a range of styles, looks, and concepts.

Although we covered scenes of Caroline running on the beach, doing yoga by the water, and exercising in the park, this image (taken from the stairs of the old Coconut Grove Playhouse), which provides an urban perspective, stood out to me as the most powerful.

Caroline Seymour is based out of The Carolinas and is available for commercial, lifestyle, fitness, and fashion modeling assignments.

WSWA President Craig Wolf interviewed in Orlando at the 2011 convention

It was a busy week in Orlando photographing for the WSWA (Wine and Spirits Wholesalers of America). As the official convention photographers, Emily and I covered a variety of wine and spirit tastings, mixology competitions, new product launches, press releases, live-feed video productions, parties sponsored by Maxim and Skyy, and of course product samplings.

This image of WSWA’s President Craig Wolf being interviewed moments before the “Call for Cocktails” Mixology Competition seems to sum up the experience well. The high production value put on by the WSWA matches the importance for new wine and spirits companies to be seen and heard at this event.
